The Iowa State Capitol is one of the most beautiful capitols in the United States and they allow anyone to take photos inside free of charge. The Law Library is straight out of a movie with the stunning staircase and multiple levels.
2) Des Moines Botanical Gardens
Perfect location for photos year round! The options are endless at the Gardens. They do have a photography fee of $175, however members receive a free photo reservation. You can also purchase a yearly photo membership for $400.
3) Water Works / Greys Lake Park
Beautiful nature locations that are super close to downtown, so you can save time driving between a nature vibe vs urban. Water Works is massive and has tons of different options, while Greys Lake is a great choice for any water shots you are wanting. At nighttime they have a tunnel that lights up with different colors, which make for some really fun photos.
4) Outside of West End Salvage
One of my all time favorite locations! All within one block you get a graffiti wall, parking garage, stairs, city views, and so much more. If you are wanting tons of different looks without having to go to multiple locations, this is the spot for you.
5) Art Center
You are only able to take photos around the outside of the building, but the white building with all the lines provides tons of options to get creative. Behind the Art Center, you also have the beautiful Rose Garden and Greenwood Park for beautiful nature options as well.
